Beastly Review ~ A cheesy movie that fails to recapture the magic of Beauty and the Beast

Oh dear, where to begin. If your a fan of cheesy dialog, bad acting and a uninspired script, then you might enjoy Beastly. The movie opens up with a montage of Alex working out and showing off his body to some Pop song. It's at this moment, you know you can't hope for much.

But, it is entertaing despite its flaws. If you go in expecting to be blowen away, then you will be disappointed, but if your up for a few laughs and don't expect to much, then Beastly does have its moments.

Vanessa tries to act her best, but some of her lines come out flat. Alex does a pretty good job, but its nothing Oscar worthy. The acting and script make for some pretty funny moments just cause it is pretty bad.

As the plot itself, its pretty predictable. But what can you expect from a Beauty and the Beast remake set in modern times. I must admit, the witch was pretty cool, even though she doesn't have a back-story. She just kinda comes out of nowhere, but that's really not important.

Overall, Beastly is a classy cheesy movie at its best. It has some good laughs and will entertain you if your in the right mood.

Hi! I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie with my niece. She really enjoyed it, I liked seeing her have so much fun. Anyway, even though from the outset it seems corny, still, I recommend it for the little ones. great post, anyway :)

Thanks for the comment, however I think they are movies much better suited for the little ones like Rio or Tangled out there to watch.

While I'd read the book beforehand and wasn't crazy about it because it was pretty cheesy, I thought the movie might be better. I liked the weird tattoos better than the cliche "fur and fangs" thing the book did.

However, the movie was not better than the book. I admit to laughing through most of it. It was so obviously aimed at the fan girl preteen crowd and we cracked up at many of the scenes, especially the zoo scene. The only good parts were exactly what you said: The tattoo/makeup job and Neil Patrick Harris.
